RAVPower has recently launched its first wireless charger with Qi wireless charging standard and has received very positive reactions from the public. It actually became one of Amazon’s best selling wireless charger. That is why we had to get our hands on it and see what the hype is all about.
The Unboxing
RAVPower’s signature packaging design.
1.jpeg
There’s a protective cardboard at the bottom of the box.
2.jpeg
The RAVPower RP-PC034 is all black and comes in a circular shape.
3.jpeg
RAVPower’s logo and the word “Fast Charge’ are printed on the front of the charger.
4.jpeg
The RAVPower RP-PC034 is made with several kinds of materials and surface treatment. The bottom part is made out of aluminium alloy and features an anodized surface. The middle part of the charger is made of flame retardant polycarbonate (PC) compounds; making it look glossy and highly reflective. The edge of the charger is made with a silicone pad to make it non-slip.
5.jpeg
The wireless charger features four silicone anti-skid pads, which helps the charger from moving on the desk.
6.jpeg
Equipped with a rectangular Micro USB port.
7.jpeg
As for the dimension, the base diameter of this charger is shorter than Mophie but slightly thicker.
8.jpeg
The net weight of this wireless charger is 138g. The RAVPower RP-PC034 wireless charger is made out of quality materials, so it’s a bit heavier than most of the wireless chargers on the market.
9.jpeg
As for the specs, it supports a power input of 9V-12V / 2A (MAX) and an output of 10W (MAX). This is the fastest standard when comparing to other wireless chargers. The product has passed the CE, RoHS certification.
10.jpeg
The wireless charger comes with a complimentary Micro USB data cable. Though this is common, this free Micro USB data cable is made with eco-friendly nylon and is 120 cm long. Other free data cables are usually always poorly made and quite short.
11.jpeg
Also, both ends of the data cable are made of aluminium alloy and feature an anodized surface to match the base of the charger; making it look more polished.
12.jpeg
The Testing
Even when the charger is connected to the power, light to indicate power won’t come on until a phone is placed on top.
13.jpeg
When we charged the Samsung S8 +, the phone does indicate it is fast charging.
14.jpeg
When charging the iPhone 8 Plus, inly the yellow light on the charging base is flashing, which indicates the phone is being charged.
15.jpeg
When the device is fully charged, the yellow light stops flashing and turns green.
16.jpeg
We use The Samsung EP-TA200 charger and Charger LAB POWER-Z KT001 to conduct this test to show the actual input voltage. It came out to be 8.3W, which is 82% charged.
17.jpeg
For the iPhone 8 Plus (iOS11.1.2) the battery was at 45% with the output voltage of 7.5W.
18.jpeg
This testing found that the RAVPower RP-PC034 wireless charger is compatible with both the iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung S8 +. As for the specific charging speed, let’s take a look at the following results. At room temperature (18℃), we use the Samsung EP-TA200 charging head and ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM001 to monitor the charging process of both phones.
19.png
The power curve for the wireless charger at input voltage is shown in the figure above.  The overall charging current for the Samsung S8 + is higher than the iPhone X. It stayed at 9-11W for the first 2 hours and 15 minutes and started to decline later on. The charging current for the iPhone 8 Plus stated at 7 ~ 8W for 2 hours and 30 minutes and then went down later. Looking at the outcome, it can be said the RAVPower RP-PC034 wireless charger works fine with both phones.
20.png
As for the charging speed, the Samsung S8 + has a fast charging technology that comes with a built-in 3500mAh battery. Therefore, the charging speed is still faster than iPhone 8 Plus’ built-in 2619mA battery. It took the RAVPower RP-PC034 3 hours to charge the Samsung S8 + and 3 hours and 40 minutes to  fully charge the iPhone 8 Plus.
21.png
The wireless charging power curve for the RAVPower RP-PC034 and Mophie on the iPhone 8 Plus ( iOS 11.1.2 ) is the same. Both started to decline in about 2 hours and 30 minutes and finish charging at the same time. (Note: The data for the Mophie is an AC input power and the data for the RAVPower is DC input power. Therefore, the overall power of the Mophie is higher.)
22.png
Using the two chargers to test again, the battery percentage curve for the phone yield similar results. The changes of the battery levels throughout the charging process were almost the same; showing that the performance of RAVPower and the Mophie is quite similar. After upgrading the iPhone 8 Plus system to iOS 11.2.2,  we used the ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM001 to test if there were any differences. The RAVPower wireless charger still seems to support the iPhone 8 Plus wireless fast charge. The input voltage was about 9V throughout the entire process while the current remained at 1.4A for 10 minutes before charging. It took about 3 hours and 20 minutes to charge the phone fully. Through the different battery level testings, it proved that theRAVPower charges can charge 42% of the battery in 1 hour and 78% in 2 hours. It takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the phone, but the overall charging speed was faster after the system upgrade.

Conclusion
From first glance, we could tell the RAVPower RP-PC034 was well made with its aluminium alloy body, anodized surface help to dissipate heat, and the non-slip silicone pad design is clean and functional. As for the performance, this charger seems to support the Samsung S8 + wireless fast charge and the iPhone 8 Plus wireless charging. Also, one of our favorite features is the LED light built into the charging base to indicate its charging status; very useful in our opinions.
